The opening of the ARTitude Exhibition 2012 was in conjunction with Children’s Day celebrations at the Asian Civilisations Musuem on 5th October 2012. The children at Club Rainbow paint for reasons beyond what most of us can comprehend – to build their self-esteem/confidence; to communicate; to have people recognize their abilities and talents instead of focusing on their illnesses. Whatever the motivation may be behind each art piece, the message “I am NOT different from you” is loud and clear.
In the series of artwork displayed, we see pieces that range from Fantasy to Comfort Food to Self Portraits, all of which depicted the children’s individual interpretation of what they saw and were familiar with. Also featured in this exhibition were painted tiles and Rangoli which reflect Singapore’s heritage and culture. This was the theme adopted by Club Rainbow for her 20th anniversary in 2012. The completed pieces were made possible with the generous support of SOTA, Tru Marine and Mrs Vijaya Mohan, Guinness World Record Holder for the largest Rangoli.
