This year marks the 20th Anniversary of Camp Rainbow. It was a fun packed 3 day 2 night camp for all campers. The theme is “Blast from the Past”. All activities were chosen from the activities played over the past 20 years, such as tent pitching, disco night, and our all-time favourite- campfire!
The special highlight for this year’s camp was the organisers cum main committee of camp were the ex-beneficiaries from Club Rainbow themselves! From budding youth campers to capable promising adults, they all contributed their time and ideas to make this year’s camp a success!
The campers were all divided into 6 groups namely Smurfs, Rugrats, Simpsons, Ninja Turtles, Jetsons and Flintstones.
The official opening of camp began with upbeat performances by external troops such as GENUS NUS Guitar Ensemble, KWORKU and AJC Dance Society. Mrs Goh Chok Tong, a veteran for Camp Rainbow for many years, was the Guest of Honour for the event.
To get the young campers familiarized with NUS Sheares Hall and their befrienders, an amazing race was conducted for all the campers. They had to work together as teams to finish the race. Activities such as A to Z rope, snake balloon bursting and caterpillar walk were part of the race that the campers had to complete to get to their next station.
In addition, to kick off the first night, there was a disco night for all to show off their stunning dance skills and moves! The children definitely enjoyed dancing!
The second day of camp began with delicious Burger King breakfast meals. The campers then proceeded to Jalan Bahtera MOE Adventure campsite for a whole day of fun outdoor activities! They played some low element obstacle courses and other activities that the committee had organised specially for them. There was also a campfire that enhanced the day. Campfire was particularly new and exciting for those young children who are new to camps. Songs and cheers were sung to entertain one another. Furthermore, there was also a movie night back at Sheares Hall for everyone to relax and watch.
The last day of camp was indeed an exciting one. There was a mini carnival organised by volunteers. Face painting and bouncy castle were part of the different activities at the carnival. Everyone was also treated to ice cream and chocolate fondues. The children were elated to be part of this exciting event.
The grand closing for the camp was held at Orchid Country Club, the Grand Ballroom. About 300 people (campers, families, sponsors and volunteers) attended the closing dinner. Professor Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim (Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Health & Ministry of Transport) graced the joyous event.
There were also external performances from Swag steps and the Divine to entertain the crowd. However, the six groups performed to their individual theme songs. The performances were really entertaining and a pleasure to watch. The young campers indeed created a good bond with their fellow befrienders. Cakes were cut to commemorate the 20 years of camp! Last but not least, everyone was also treated to a sumptuous buffet spread. It was indeed a fulfilling and enlightening camp for all young to old enthusiastic campers! They built their self- esteem, character development, leadership skills and social responsibility through this camp. They brought home beautiful memories.
